Valerie Valerie J. Berkowitz, M.S., R.D., C.D.N., C.D.E., is a licensed registered dietitian, certified diabetes educator, who is certified as a lifestyle counselor and certified by the American Dietetic Association in adult weight management. She has been practicing for over 15 years.
Currently, Valerie is the Director of Nutrition at the Center for Balanced Health and works as a consultant. Her work with Prevention and Men’s Health Magazine includes nutrition counseling for participants who were appearing on the Today show and acting as a nutrition coach for a gentleman who lost 31 pounds in 3 months. As a medical reviewer for Pritchett and Hull Associates, Inc., Ms. Berkowitz has assisted in developing consumer education books including: The Sweet Truth about Managing Type 2 Diabetes; Learning About Fats; Learning About Fiber; Learning About Carbohydrates; Learning About Cholesterol; Learning About Sodium; Learning About Cholesterol and Blood Pressure Test Results

Prior to this Ms. Berkowitz worked as a nutritionist at The Atkins Center for Complementary Medicine (ACCM). While working with Dr. Atkins, Valerie collaborated on two books that topped the New York Times Best Seller’s list: Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, Avon Books 2002 and Atkins for Life, St. Martin’s Press 2003. She also moderated and monitored the diet community on eDiets.com: developed relationships built from written responses to a multitude of nutrition, exercise, and health questions. Additionally, she focused her efforts on bridging the gap between conventional and complementary nutritional practice and included educating patients, mentoring nutrition students, speaking at events for consumers and health care professionals, in addition to assisting in research efforts. These efforts helped her gain invaluable scientific and practical understanding of the intricacies of controlled carbohydrate nutrition plans and the beneficial medical implications.
